Ukhimath is a tiny hamlet situated at an elevation of 1367 mts above sea level in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. It is the winter abode of Lord Kedarnath Madhyamaheshwar and TungnathDuring winter the idols of Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar are brought to Ukhimath and are worshiped in Omkareshwar temple for six months. Ukhimath is the Centre destination for visiting near by places like Kedarnath, tungnath, ChoptaChandrashilaDeoriatal and many more. Earlier Ukhimath was known as ushamath. during mid-November of every year, a mega fair is organized here when the doli of lord Mdhyamaheshwar is brought here. Ukhimath is 41 km away from Rudraprayag.

History of Ukhimath.

According to legends Wedding of Usha (Daughter of Vanasur) and Anirudh (Grandson of Lord Krishna) was solemnized here in Omkareshwar temple. By the name of Usha, this place was named as Ushamath. Ukhimath has many other ancient temples dedicated to several Gods and Goddesses such as UshaShivaAniruddhaParvati and Mandhata. There is a small temple named Bholeshwar Mahadev at a distance of 500 mts, it is believed that Vanasur meditated here before going to war with Lord Krishna.
