History of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand

The katyuri kings were the first dynasty in Uttarakhand. They are the medieval ruling clan of Uttarakhand. They ruled Uttarakhand from 800 to 1100 after the downfall of Katyuri Vansh Garhwal region was ruled by Chieftains. In the 15^th Century (1455- 1493) Chanderpura one of the powerful principality of the Jagatpa. Chandpurgarh was ruled by. Ajaypal successfully in the 15^th century after that his kingdom was known as Garhwal. Then he changed the capital of CHANDPUR to DEVALGHAR And later SRINAGAR.

Ajay khanpal was successfully ruled over Gharwal for about 300 years but in that time period he faced attacks by Kumaon, Moghuls, Shiks, and Rohillas. After all these attacks Gorkha also attack and captured KUMAON after that they attacked Garhwal and Garhwal soldiers suffered from a lot of causalities and king PRADHUYUMAN escaped at the time then GHORKHAS became the master of Garhwal in 1804 and rule for 12 years.

On April 02, 1815, the British capture half of Garhwal, and it dived into 2 parts eastern half was know as British Garhwal and Doon for Dehradun, and wester was stored by king SHURENDAR SHAH later on he made TERI as the capital of his kingdom.
