History of Mussoorie Uttarakhand
The name Mussoorie is taken from a shrub Mansur which grows in this area. The town is also pronounced as Mansuri by local people.
In 1803 the Gorkhas succeed the Garhwal and some regions of Dehradun, though Mussoorie was established on 1 November 1814 when the war started between the Gorkhas and the British. In 1815 Dehradun and Mussoorie were ejected by the Gorkhas and were attached to the district of Saharanpur by 1819.
