Introduction of naina devi temple :-

A well know shakti peeths of hindu religion, naina devi temple is located on top of the naina hill at the northern bank of naini lake in Nainital, Uttrakhand.

 History and Mythology of Naina devi temple:-

                                                                   There is a mention of naina devi temple in Kushan period, buit in 15th AD , the idol of naina devi temple was established in 1842 by a devotee Moti ram shah. In the year 1880, this temple was destroyed by a landslide. Later the temple was restructuring. Here the shaktipeeth form of mother sati devi is worshipped.

According to mythology sati  devi gave up her life in the yagya khund performed by her father dakshaswara (king daksgha), when lord Shankar was cacarring the dead body of mother sati around the word, during lord Vishnu took his Sudarshan chakra sati’s body was divided into 51 parts, out of which sati’s eyes(naina) fell at the place. The temple of naina devi is built on the spot where the eyes of the Devi(naina) fell.

Naina devi temple inside:-

         The naina devi temple is a huge peepal tree that seems like sheltering the visitors. Around the peepal tree is an idol of lord Hanuman. The centre are two eyes that represent naina devi to the left is mata kali devi and the right, Lord ganesha.   And the main shrine of mata naina devi is bordered by  two lions.

 Event in naina devi temple:-

                             During nanda Ashtami, a big fair is orgnised in the naina devi temple and devotees comes for darshan and take blessing. Nanda devi Ashtami festival runs for 8 days in the premises of naina devi temple. A ceremony of statue immersion of nanda devi with her sister naina devi is celebrated on last day of the fair.

By train -281km ( the fastest train from delhi to nainital is train to Haridwar jn, then cab to nainital and takes time approx 5-6 hours of travel time.)

By air- 235km (Nainital does not have direct air connectivity. Indira Gandhi international airport, new delhi is nearest airport to Dehradun jolly grand airport and then you takes  bus and cab for nainital.)

By bus – 315km (Daily bus service to nainital is available from delhi)

By train:- (The fastest way to reach from Dehradun to nainital is train to Haridwar jn, then cab to nainital and takes 4hour 45min.

            From chandigargh to nainital

     By train -(there is no direct train of reaching nainital.  the  nearest railway station to nainital is kathgodam(35km) and then you can take texi and bus )

    By air –  299km  (chandigarh to dehradun ) and then take cab and bus for nainital.
