About Vridh Badri Temple
The Vridh Badri Temple is a sacred Hindu Temple which is situated at Animath in the Chamoli district of Uttrakhand. Vridh Badri is one of the oldest temple of Uttrakhand.
Vridh Badri Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is named Vridh Badri comes because here Lord Vishnu is worshipped here as an old man. Vridh Badri is one of the temples among Sapt Badri. ( Sapt Badri is a group of temples which are dedicated to Lord Vishnu all these temples are located in Garhwal). The altitude height of the Vridh Badri Temple is about 1380m.
History and Mythology of Vridh Badri Temple
The Vridh Badri Temple is one of the oldest temples in the Uttrakhand Himalayas. It is believed that a wise sage Narad performed self-punishment at this place to please Lord Vishnu. Delighted by his dedication of Narad Lord Vishnu presented himself as an old man before him and answered all of Narad’s prayers.
According to the legends, the craftsman Vishwakarma created the idol of Lord Vishnu (Statue) which was worshipped in the current location of Vridh Badri Temple. The idol of Lord Vishnu stayed in Animath Village until the arrival of the flood. Later the Idol of Lord Vishnu was founded by Shree Adi Shankaracharya during the 8th century. He found the statue and placed it in the main Badrinath Temple.
