How to reach Sunderdhunga glacier trek

 

Sunderdhunga glacier it can be reached by a long trek of around 50km from Bageshwar- Loharkhet through Dhakuri- Khati- Kathalia. Loharkhet is 36km from Bageshwar district. Here we can discuss how the Tourist can reach Bageshwar city to begin the Sunderdhunga glacier trek.

Short Itinerary Sunderdhunga trek

 

DAY 01: pick up from Dehradun-Bageshwar – Loharkhet (350) (9/10 hours) overnight stay in a hotel.

 
Bageshwar is the base for all the trekkings in this region – Sunderdhunga, Pindari, and Kafni. This is the last big town on your way to the trek.  You can explore the Bageshwar town and visit the old Bagnath temple at near to Gomti river. Buy all the necessary goods from the Bageshwar market.

 

Day 02:  Trek from Loharkhet- Dhakuri (10km) (4/5 hour) overnight stay camp

 

Loharkhet is situated at the height of 1760mts above sea level. start the first steps of your trek toward Pindari and Kanfi glacier. you can see the beautiful view snow-capped mountains of Nandi Devi sanctuary from Dhakuri Khal

 

Day 03 Trek from Dhakuri – Khati – Jaitoli (15 km) (8 hours) overnight

stay camp

 

Khati is the biggest village that you will see during your visit to pindars glacier. The journey passes through the lush green forest of rhododendrons.

It’s the last village en route Pindari and Kafni glacier.

 

Day 04: Trek from Jatoli – Kathalia (13 km) (6/7 hours) overnight stay camp

 

The distance you have to cover today is 13km. more than half of your journey goes through alpine forest and the next halt is Kathalia situated at 3206mts above sea level. Katharina is the last inhabited village en route to sunderdunga glacier.

 
Day 05: Today early morning trek from Kathalia – Maiktoli top (4320 meters)/ Sukhram cave (07km) (6/7) hour) overnight stay camp

 

There are two different paths that lead you to two different viewpoints. The route from Kathalia which diverts to Maiktoli top Sukram cave. Both of these destinations are opposite from each other. Maiktoli top is a steep and tiring climb but it’s rewarded with a great view of the Himalayas and mountains.

On the other hand, Sukram cave is situated 7km far from Kathalia in the opposite direction which takes you to see Sunderdhunga viewpoint and you can also trek to Sunderdhunga glacier.

 

Day 06: Trek from Kathalia – Jaitoli (13km) (5/6 hour) overnight camp

 

The trek down from Kathalia to Jaitoli and can easily be completed within 5 hours.

 

Day 07: Trek from Jaitoli- Khati-Dhakuri (15km) (6/7 hours) overnight stay camp

 

From Jaitoli stepdown to Khati which quite easy and then Dhakuri.

 

Day 08: Trek from Dhakuri- Loharkhet (10km) (4/5 hour) overnight stay camp

 

After taking some rest and early morning breakfast follows the downward trail to Loharkhet.

 

Day 09: Drive from Loharkhet to Bageshwar to Dehradun (350km) (8/9 hour).
