Sankri is a small village in Uttarkashi district in the foothills of the Himalayas. Juda Ka Talab
Juda Ka Talab is a high-altitude lake that hikers come across on the Kedarkantha trek. The lake is completely frozen in winter. It is believed that Lord Shiva once opened his locks of hair a little. The water fell from the hair and formed this lake.
Juda ka Talab is located 4 km before Sankri village which is the last village with a motorable road. One has no choice but to go beyond this point. The hiking trail from Sankri village to Juda ka Talab takes you through a lush green forest filled with countless pine trees. The journey to Juda ka Talab from Sankri will take about 4 hours on average.
The best time to visit Juda ka Talab is around the year except during monsoon season. A good amount of snow can be expected until mid-April. The region is covered in lush greenery in the summer.
Sankri Zipline Ride

Weather in Sankri?
Sankri is located in the upper Himalayas at an altitude of about 6400 feet. The weather in Sankri is cool throughout the year. The weather is extreme with frequent snowfall and temperatures dropping to -15 degrees Celsius in the months of December and January. The best weather is in the months of February to April with pleasant sunny days at 10 degrees and cold nights with temperatures dropping to -10 degrees at night.
Network connectivity in Sankri?
Sankri has a cell tower but most networks don’t work there. So call your family and friends before you leave. At times you can make an outgoing call from the BSNL network. If you don’t have a BSNL network, you can pay and call from any shop or hotel there.
How to reach Sankri?
The distance between Dehradun and Sankri is approximately 198 km. Traveling from Dehradun to Sankri is not easy as only a few local buses ply in the morning. Both buses depart at 5:00 am and 7:00 am from prince chowk opposite GP grand hotel. It takes about 10 hours to reach Sankri from Dehradun.
You can also hire a Shared taxi from Dehradun to Sankri at 7.30 am from the Grand Hotel which takes 8 hours’ time to reach Sankri. You will reach at 3.30 pm.
What are the options to stay in Sankri?
There are a few stay options with guest houses and hotels mainly Swargarohini hotel, hotel Orchid Inn, Rawat guest house, and Himalayan Homestay.
You can also find homestays with wooden interiors and hostels all through the year.
Entry charges for Sankri?
The place is inside the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, so you will have to pay an additional INR 150 per day for the wildlife.
