About rupin pass trek
Rupin Pass is a 65 km long high-altitude pass which starts from Dhaula (Uttarakhand) and ends in Sangla (Himachal Pradesh). The journey will be full of adventures every step will unravel a new décor. Although the journey is easy, some corridors of the journey will challenge your inner mountaineer. Piecemeal from uneven terrains you’ll encounter small water feeders of the Rupin River, mountains covered in snow, thick timbers, falls, and the mesmerizing view of the potent Kailash Mountain.

- Jhaka Village (the hanging Village): – The Jhaka village is no lower than a wonder. Jhaka village is a very uniquely positioned village located on the edge of the mountain range. It is said that the Jhaka village was once a part of Dhara but after a landslide, it shifted towards the cliff of the mountain thus creating an effect of hanging from the cliff.
- Snow Bridges: – During the trek one will encounter numerous snow bridges on the trek.
- Forests: – In many parts of the trek one can witness the dense forests of Fir, Rhododendron, and Oak which have stunning views.
- Kinnaur Temple: – A multistory temple that exposes the hidden culture of the people living in the Himalayan region.

How to reach rupin pass trek
There are substantially two trails that pierce the Rupin Pass. One of them starts from the village of Gosangu which is the last road head of Himachal Pradesh. It’s accessible by road from Shimla via Rohru. The alternate route to Rupin Pass is accessible from Dehradun via Dhaula. The most notorious or favored route of pedestrians is the route from Dehradun. Both trails’ head towards the first camp Jhaka, the hanging village.
By road
There are currently 4 buses from Dehradun to Uttarkashi. You can take the bus from the parade ground to Uttarkashi. The earliest bus departs at 7:00 am and the last bus departs at 1:30 pm. As there are no direct buses to Dhaula you can get down at Naitwar and look for taxis or cabs towards Dhaula from here. Alternatively, you can book a taxi or cab from Dehradun to Dhaula.
By train
Dehradun is connected to all the major cities in the country through Railways. You can then take the train from your respective cities to Dehradun. From Dehradun Railway station one can opt for buses or taxis or cabs. From here to Dhaula the journey will be 5 to 6 hours long.
By air
From your respective cities, you’ll take a flight to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. From the Airport, one can book a taxi to the bus stand or can directly book a taxi for Dhaula. You can also take a bus from Dehradun to Naitwar.
Best time to visit rupin pass trek
One can visit the rupin pass trek in two seasons: –
1.From May to June
From May to June the trekkers can experience pleasant weather. The trek in this season creates an eye-soothing view for the trekkers. For Trekkers who want to experience trekking in snow, it is the best season and best trek.
- Average temperature during the day: – 19 to 25 degrees Celsius.
- Average temperature during the night: – 4 to 6 degrees Celsius.
2.From September to October
Rupin pass is considered the most beautiful winter trek of Uttarakhand. During October & November, the trek witnesses its first winter snowfall which glorifies the sweetness of the trek. On the opposite hand, the snowfall makes the trek dangerous and challenging.
- Average temperature during the day: – 12 to 18 degrees Celsius.
- Average temperature during the night: – 0 to 8 degrees Celsius.

- Do not carry unnecessary items on the trek as it will become more challenging to trek.
- The Last ATM is at Purola which is on the way to Dhaula.
- Rupin Pass trek is closed during the monsoon season thanks to heavy snowfall.
