RUDRAPRAYAG  Rudraprayag town belongs to the Nagar Palika district of the district  Rudraprayag. It is located at an altitude of 895 m from sea level. It marks the cojoining of the rivers Alaknanda and Mandakini. It got its name from Lord shiva’s avatar of Rudra that was taken over here. Rudraprayag is not only famous due to its mythological significance but also for its immense natural reserve and the Himalayas surrounding it.

It comprises of the Temple of Rudraprayag, according to ancient history “Rudra” (Avatar de Lord Shiva), gave achieved to Narad Muni and blessed him with the gift of singing. The temple is situated right on the bank of the Sangam of Alaknanda and Mandakini. Another famous shiv mandir located over here is the Koteshwar Mahadev Temple, located inside a cave, and the nearly 5000 years old Koteshwar Mahadev is a must-visit if you are planning a trip.

History of Rudraprayag

Before becoming an individual district Rudraprayag was a part of the Chamoli, Pauri, and Tehri districts. It is said that the reason why lord shiva came to Rudra temple was that Narad muni was chanting bhajans in the lord’s name which pleased him and in order to bless Narad muni he came in the form of Rudra and hence the Rudraprayag temple got renowned. All the idols present in the Koteshwar Mahadev temple are said to be naturally formed apart of the natural shiva lingam, the temple comprises the physical depiction of  Hanuman ji, Shree Ganesh, and Goddess Laxmi.

How to reach Rudraprayag

By Air: The nearest airport to Devprayag is the Jolly Grant Airport situated in Dehradun so if you’re coming from any of the metropolitans you’ll need to take a flight to Dehradun and then from Dehradun to Rudraprayag via road

By Train: The nearest railway station is in Rishikesh from there you’ll need to go by road

By Road: Uttrakhand is connected to all major cities via highways, once you reach Uttarkhand you need to follow the Badrinath highway.

Ukhimath: Also pronounced as Okhimath, It consists of temples of ShivaParvatiAniruddha, and Usha but the main temple in this area is Omkareshwar

Deoria Tal: Deoria Tal is situated at an altitude of 2438 m it offers camping near the lake and a view of the chaukhamba peaks in a clear sky.

 

Rudranath:  Rurdranath mandir is situated at an approx. height of 3600 m above sea level and has many waterfalls and cinematic mountain views.

Tiryuginarayan: Tiryuginarayan temple another lord shiva temple lies in the Rudraprayag district and it marks the holy wedding of Shiva and Parvati.
