Pilgrimage to shrines like Kedarnath, Hemkund Sahib to get easier

In order to make the pilgrimage to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib easy, the NHAI has invited bids for the feasibility study for a ropeway project.

The bids have been invited for eight ropeway links in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, a Times of India report said.

As of now, pilgrims have to trek from Gaurikund making it difficult for many to reach. Even though a chopper service is in place, many can’t afford it.

Union road transport and highways minister, Nitin Gadkari, had asked the governments of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh to explore the possibility of ropeway projects to boost tourism.

According to the ToI report, the identified projects are Tara Devi temple, Hattu Peak, Chunja glacier, and Bharmani temple in Himachal Pradesh. Three links have been proposed in Uttarakhand including the Hanuman temple in Nainital and Ghangaria in Chamoli.
