DESCRIPTION

Lansdowne is situated in a lush green natural environment in the hilly region and it was settled in the year 1887 during the british period. The original name of this place was kaludanda, which in garhwali language means “black mountain”. Its altitude is 1706 meter above sea level. This hill station is very close to delhi and lansdowne can be reched in 5-6 hours. To go to lansdowne by bike,after entry uttarpradesh from delhi via anandvihar, one can reach lansdowne via meerut, bijnor and kotdwar.

Garwhal rifles strong hold

Lansdowne was settled by the British in the year 1887. It was named after the then Viceroy of India Lord Lansdowne. By the way, its real name is Kanudanda. This entire area is under the army and is also a stronghold of the Garhwal Rifles. You can visit the Garhwal Rifles War Memorial and Regiment Museum here. Here you can get a glimpse of the things related to Garhwal Rifles. The museum remains open till 5 pm only. In clear weather, a long chain of snow-capped mountains can be seen. Nearby is the St. Mary’s Church, which is more than 100 years old. The Bhulla Tal here is very famous. It is a small lake with boating facilities. The beautiful view of sunset in the evening is visible from the Santoshi Mata temple. This temple is built on the high hill of Lansdowne. By the way, there is also Tadkeshwar temple at a distance of few kilometers from here. This is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva. It is also considered as a Siddha Peeth. It is situated on the mountain at an altitude of 2092 meters. The entire temple is surrounded by palm and deodar trees. This whole area is beautiful as well as peaceful. Tourists also come here for adventurous sports like mountain climbing, biking, cycling.
