Gauchar is a valley Town located in Karanpragyag tehsil within Chamoli District of Uttarakhand state in India. It is famous for the oldest and biggest Mela Gauchar Mela and Kisan Mela, it is situated on the alter side of river Alaknanda and is on the way to the divine destination of Badrinath. It is well known for being one of the cleanest places in the country. It has previously topped Swachta sarvekshan best Ganga town award all over India. Situated at an altitude of 800m (2,620 ft) above sea level.
The destination is adjoining by seven mountains. The town is known for its great work to control the loss of lives in the 2013 flood disaster of Uttarakhand. Hence it is located on one of the largest pieces of flatland in this mountainous region of Uttarakhand. Past of Gauchar, Uttarakhand
The flat area was the property of the kings of Garhwal(Panwars) and it was hand over to them by the Badrinath Temple at some point in history. It’s first to accomplish identification in the 1920s when Lady Willingdon, wife of the Viceroy of India touch down here by air. Then, in 1938, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru along with his sister Vijaya Laxmi pandit also came here by air on the way to an individual visit to Badrinath. At that time cow dung used to be blaze(burnt) on the field to indicate the direction of airflow.
Since 1943, Gauchar has taken part in one of the biggest trade fairs in Uttarakhand. The fair obeyed as vast market for the Bhotias and pahadis to sell their woolen products, valuable jewels, and heeng (asafoetida), and to buy goods for daily essentials such as cloth and salt to take back with them. This fair was not purely a local fair, people traveled here from several areas of Uttar Pradesh to take part in the rapid trade.
Gauchar Airport:
Gauchar Airport Locally known as Helipad, It is very main airport during extreme conditions, because of its position on one of the largest section of flatland in the hilly region of Uttarakhand, a 4,000 ft Air Base was constructed at Gauchar in 1998. Airport was essential for rescue and relief efforts following the disastrous 2013 North India Flood which ravaged Uttarakhand in June 2013.

By Air:(presently on Helicopter/Chopper)
same under the UDAN scheme of the Government of India, the helicopter owned by Pawan Hans Pvt Ltd will be accessible from the Jolly Grant airport thrice a week(Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday). It will take off from the airport of Jollygrant at 9:40 am and reach Gauchar at 11:50 am. It will return to Jolly Grant airport at 2.30 pm in the afternoon.
