Almora is a municipal board in Uttarakhand and also a cantonment town in Almora district of Uttarakhand. It is one of the beautiful hill stations in the lap of the Himalayas. History of Almora, Uttarakhand

Basically, Almora’s name came from a plant name “Kilmora” found in a nearby region and it was used for washing utensils of Katarmal sun temple. Almora which is also known as the cultural capital of Kumaon was the administrative headquarter of the Kumaun district in 1815 when the Gorkha army is defeated in the Anglo-Gorkha war in 1816 and the Treaty of Sugauli was signed. In 1891 the Kumaon District was renamed as Almora District and Nainital is separated as another district.

By Air:

Pantnagar Airpot is located in Udham Singh Nagar district and the nearest airport to Almora which is around 127 Km away by road.

By Train:

Kathgodam railway station which is near Haldwani is the nearest railway station to Almora which is around 90 km away by road.

By Car:

The road is well connected to Almora one can easily travel by car or motorcycle. Almora is around 362 km away from Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, and also around 362 km away from Delhi, the capital of India.

By Bus:

One can travel to Almora by Government Buses from Dehradun or Delhi directly. As buses are available directly from respective bus stations.
