About kedarnath –
Kedarnath Temple is a hindu temple roughly 1200 years old dedicated to shiva. The temple is located on the Garhwal himalayan range near the mandakani river, in the state of uttarakhand, India. Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open to the general public only between the months of April and November ( kartik purnima, the autumn full moon).
During the winters, the vigraha of the temple is carried down to ukhimath to be worshipped for the next six months. Kedarnath is seen as a homogenous form of shiva, the ‘Lord of Kedarkhand’, the historical name of the region.
Distance–
Kedarnath is well connected through road network. Since air and rail connectivity in Uttarakhand is limited, road network is the best and easily available transport option.
You can either drive to Kedarnath or hire a cab/taxi to reach Kedarnath from haridwar .
By road – the distance is 752 km from jaipur to kedarnath and from haridwar to kedarnath the distance is 239 km.

Gauri Kund is the last stop for the vehicles and from here the trek for the temple starts. The trek is 16 km long which can be covered in 5-6 hrs. If any person is not able to trek, they can hire the pony, or palkis to reach the temple.
By air–
from jaipur international airport to jollygrant airport than we take the route by road or can take Heli services direct to the Guptkashi, Phata or any nearby helipad at the base of Kedarnath temple. Heli services can be booked online.
By train–
There are 3 weekly trains and 1 daily trains that run from Jaipur to Haridwar JN.
1-uttaranchal express- runs only sunday
2-yog nagari rishikesh express – runs 3 days in a week .monday,thursday,saturday.
3- yoga express – runs daily.
Weather in kedarnath –
kedarnath in summer ( may to june) : the weather is cool and pleasant during summer months. summers are the ideal time for all sightseeing, temple visit and also for adventure activities. the average temperature is around 17 degree C.
kedarnath in monsoon ( july, august) : there are occasional rains and the temprature drops till 12 degree C. landslide are common during this time but it is accessible and many trekkers,piligrims visit kedarnath during monsoons as well.
kedarnath in autumn ( september to october) : the weather become pleasant and surrondings become scenic after monsoon. one of the best time to visit.
kedarnath in winters( nov to april) : in winters kedarnath region sees heavy snowfall, causing the locals to leave towns and the temple stays closed for six months. for six months the idol of lord kedarnath is moved to ukhimath, a place near guptkashi and is transferred back to kedarnath in the month of may.
Best time to visit kedarnath:
The best season to visit Kedarnath is summer when the temperature is moderate and stays between 15-30 degrees Celsius. The sun is warm and there is a gentle cool breeze that makes the day pleasant.
Travel tips :
* Make sure to carry your light winter wear even if you plan to visit during the summer season.
* It can rain anytime here, so it is mandatory to carry an umbrella and raincoat along with your rain shoes.
* To save yourself from the cold winds here, carry a windcheater, woollen socks, monkey caps and a muffler.
* prepare your body to walk and trek at a high altitude.

1- Is there any oxygen problem in Kedarnath?
At Kedarnath, the atmospheric presence of oxygen is only 40 percent of the required level. This means that the lungs must breathe faster and the heart must pump more to retain the oxygen level in the body. When the compensatory level of oxygen is not available, the heart suffers fatigue and its muscles cease to work.
2- In which month Kedarnath is less crowded?
The best time to visit Kedarnath is during the month of May as soon as temple reopens or during September -October when the crowd is less.
3- Can we walk in night in Kedarnath?
A reminder, start trekking Kedarnath early in the morning as you can trek between 4:00 am to 1:30 pm and not after that. It is because Kedarnath Dham is situated inside the wildlife sanctuary and pilgrims are not allowed to trek outside this time frame.
