History  of Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib :

 

 

Hemkund Sahib  earlier known as Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Ji, is a pious  place of worship and pilgrimage of sikhs . It is located  in Chamoli district of  Uttarakhand in  India.

It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, and it is believed  that Guru ji  mentioned it  in Dasam Granth (a presumed work dictated by Guruji himself).  Shri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara is a highly respected and admired sikh pilgrimage place located in Himalayan Garhwal region .

The present Gurudwara was constructed around 1960s by Major General Harkirat Singh, Engineer-in-Chief, Indian Army.

 

 

 Chamoli District :

Chamoli district is in  Garhwal region of Uttarakhand state of India.  It encloses a geographical area of 8030 sq km .It is bounded by the Tibet region in the north, and by the  districts of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar to the east, Almora to the south, Pauri Garhwal to the southwest, Rudraprayag to the west, and Uttarkashi to the northwest.

How to reach Hemkund  Sahib :

 

By Air :

The nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. It is about 268 km from Hemkund Sahib .Taxi and bus services are available from Dehradun airport to Hemkund Sahib. From Govindghat you have  to take Rishikesh -Badrinath highway.  The road connectivity  is upto Govindghat only where from you have to take trek of 19-20 km to reach to Hemkunth Sahib.  Joshimath is the main town near Govindghat.

 By Rail :

The nearest railway station from Hemkund Sahib is Rishikesh .

 

By Road :

Hemkund Sahib is located on Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway. From Rishikesh, one can take a bus/Taxi to reach Hemkund Sahib. A 20 km trek from Govind Ghat will end at Hemkund Sahib. This path can be covered either by walk or by pony and a Gurudwara here gives shelter to pilgrims.

 

  Hemkund is unreachable from October to April due to snow  bound paths and glaciers. The best months for visiting Hemkund sahib are Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct.

 

 

Stay At Hemkund Sahib  :

 

It is highly elevated shrine  known for its religious significance . No one is allowed to stay  overnight in Hemkunt Sahib. Tourists only lodge at Ghagaria which is 2.2 km behind Hemkunt Sahib having some good restaurants and food joints .

Valley of Flowers :

The Valley of flowers is one of the best places to praise or applaud. It is surrounded by Himalayan peaks from all sides. The mountains surrounding Valley of Flowers also border China and Nepal .The Valley  looks beautiful and amazing from May to September with maximum number of flowers in July and August .

 

Ghangaria :

Ghangaria is a utmost stopover for travellers, visiting Hemkund and Valley of Flowers A thick snow blanket covers Ghangaria during winters and remains closed between December-April.

It is granted with ample flora and fauna with natural beauty. Tourists can go either for hiking or village walks.

 

Laxman Mandir :

It is believed that Laxman, the younger brother of Lord Rama mediated at this place to regain his health after getting injured during Rama Ravana war.
