From Dharasu to Uttarkashi is 26 kilometers. Uttarkashi is a uniquely designed place having almost 10,000 population and district headquarters. There are various Hotels and Dharamshala’s situated in this most historical place which lies near the bank of the Ganga River. Some of the famous temples catch the eye of people here e.g.: – Lord Shiva, Pashuram, Maa Kali, and Eka-dash Rudra. Gangotri is also famous for Bhojh Patra before papers were invented people in ancient times use to write on those.

There are four sites also called char Dham and Gangotri is one of them. It is said that when the Pandavas were on their way to Kailash (Door to heaven) they rested and meditated here in Gangotri. The doors (Kapath) of Gangotri are opened only in summer which is for six months.

Gangotri 3149 Meters. –  The thing which attracts the most is the temple made by Gorkha leader Amar Singh Thapa decades ago which was again reconstructed by Jaipur Darbar and below that there is a Bhagirathi Shila where King Bhagirath prayed wholeheartedly for Bhagirathi (Also known as river Ganga) for years so that it comes into existence.

The main starting point of Gomukh (From where river Ganga starts) lies in a distance of 18 kilometers from Gangotri. Routes are structured in a convenient way wherein Tourists can easily walk and reach their destinations. Pilgrims from every corner of the world come to Gangotri come here for peace they pray and seek blessings for their families from Ma Ganga and devote themselves by performing some rituals. People do visit the most famous temple here which is Gangotri Temple which is represented by Ganga Ma. The Beautiful infrastructure of this temple is made of marble that is said to be 20 feet high, and the age is around 300 years old. This uniquely crafted temple is devoted to Goddess Ganga, when pilgrims visit Gangotri, they make sure to visit the temple and take part in the Ganga Aarti performed to thank the river goddess.

Gangotri is cold usually. The best time to explore Gangotri is in 4 months in summer and mid-winters which are April to June, and September to October. Summers are quite pleasant here. Considering the fact that one of the perfect seasons of Gangotri is summer. In Summer the day is very warm while the nights are quite a chilli.

Some Compulsory Trip Essentials For Gangotri Yatra

A pair of comfortable trekking or sports shoes are a must, as trekking trousers, woolen cloths, Jackets that are wind-proof, Sunscreen and lotions to avoid dry skin, lip balm, walking stick, personal toiletries and torch/ flashlight with extra batteries. Some dry fruits never do a harm also water is also mandatory to avoid any dehydration.

DATES AND TIMING OF THE TEMPLE FOR THE YEAR 2022

The Gangotri site has already closed for winter and will reopen in the month of April and May 2022 and the darshan timings would be 4 AM to 7 pm.

Ways to Reach Gangotri:

There are three ways to reach Gangotri from Dehradun which are mentioned below.

  • The Roadways– One can easily visit Gangotri through the motor roads. ISBT is the major hub of Buses and other vehicles like Taxis. Buses for Gangotri are easily available from the City of yoga Rishikesh, Dev-Bhoomi Uttarakhand.
  • The Railways-Dehradun also has its Railway station which is located near ISBT which is in 5 kilometres from the main bus stand. People usually use Rails for travelling to Gangotri
  • The Airways– Dehradun have its own Airport which is Known as Joly grant Airport which is also the nearest airport to Gangotri as well (250 kilometres). The convenient way to visit Gangotri is also by a Chopper.
