About Deoria Tal Lake

Deoria Tal is an Incredible tourist destination located at a distance of 49 km from Rudraprayag. It is a beautiful lake surrounded by lush green forests. The waters of this lake reflect the clear image of the Chaukhamba ranges with the peaks of Gangotri, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Neelkanth. According to some legends, the gods used to bathe in this lake, so it is mentioned in the Puranas as ‘Indra Sarovar’. The sage-sages believe that the ‘Yaksha’ who questioned the Pandavas during their exile and who care for the natural treasures hidden in the earth and the roots of trees, lived in this lake.

 

Mahabharat Relation

There is a very interesting story related to the Mahabharata period from Deoria Tal, according to which the Pandavas were once very thirsty for water when they were on exile, then the Pandavas go near a pond to drink water where some questions before drinking water they are made, but they are unhappy when the four Pandava brothers do not give the right answer, after which Yudhishthira comes in search of his brothers, where they find all the brothers in a sad state, which makes them very sad.

After this, Yudhishthira meets Yaksha Maharaj and if Yaksha gives the promise, if all the questions are answered correctly by Yudhishthira, then the Yaksha will resurrect all his brothers.

Good Time to Visit Deoriatal

The good time to go to Deoriatal is March to May in summer and In winters October to January, when the snowfall starts, the nights at Deoria Tal are extremely chilly and are just advisable if you’re comfortable with surviving temperatures well below Even June to July is hot when the sun is out but shades and night are a touch cooler though.

How to Reach

By Road from Haridwar

The Deoriatal Chandrashila trek begins at a little village called Sari which is 12 kms far from Ukhimath town in Rudraprayag district. Sari village about 218 kms away from Haridwar and the road drive takes about 8 – 9 hours. From Haridwar take the 1st available bus to Rudraprayag. Buses leave at 6.00 am and 8.00 am. Generally all buses headed within the Badrinath direction travel by Rudraprayag.

If you do not get a bus at the government bus stand, try the private bus stand, which is near next to that. Rudraprayag is about six hours by bus from Haridwar. On the way, the bus passes Devprayag and Srinagar (the Uttarakhand Srinagar, not Kashmir’s Srinagar).

At Rudraprayag, from the main market buses leave for Ukhimath every 2 hours. The last bus is at 2.00 pm. you also get shared privet taxis from the market, but after 2 pm vehicles are scarce. It takes about 3 hours to get to Ukhimath from Rudraprayag. Ukhimath is 15 km before Sari. So it’s almost there. For sari you get the last bus at 6.00 pm from ukhimath.

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport is the only airport that is nearest to deoriatal. Who is located about 48 km from Haridwar. There is daily flights from Delhi to Dehradun.

By Train

Haridwar is the closest railway station for Deoria Tal. There is a daily train from Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Lucknow, Kolkata and Chennai.
