Brahmatal lake is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand in Lohajung. It is situated at an altitude of 3240 m/10630ft. According to some Hindu beliefs, lord Brahma(the creator of the universe) meditated at this place from where it got its name. The trek will cover 2 alpine lakes the lake of brahmatal and bekaltal. According to Hindu beliefs, Bekaltal is the place where lord Brahma rested after his penance was complete. As the name, Bekaltal means frog lake the locals believe that a snake god protects them from all the calamities.

Brahmatal trek is considered one of the most beautiful winter treks in the Himalayan Region. Most parts of the Brahmatal trek will be covered with snow apart from uneven terrain the trek is full of beautiful landscapes, frozen lakes, oak, and burans trees covered with snow. During winters the alpine lakes of bekaltal & brahmatal get frozen and create an eye-catching view for the trekkers. One of the best things about this trek has to be the sunset. The amazing part of the trek is the view of mt. Trishul and Nanda ghunti peaks. In addition, this trek will also offer you the majestic view of Ali bugyala, Bedni Bugyal, and Junargali.

The total distance covered in the Brahmatal trek will be 23km which will be covered in 5 days. The trek will start from Loha Jung and it will end as well there.

ROUTE TO REACH BRAHMATAL TREK

BY BUS

If you are coming from Delhi, you can take the bus from Anand Vihar Bus station to Nainital or you can take the bus to Dehradun bus station. From there you can take the bus to Nainital. The Bus will leave you to the bus station from there you can take a taxi to Lohajung as there are no direct buses.

BY AIR

As there are a limited no. of flights from Delhi to Pantnagar airport. You can take the flight to jolly grant airport from Delhi airport. And from Jolly grant airport, you can take the flight to the Pant Nagar airport. And from there on you can continue your journey to LohaJung by taxi.

By RAIL

From Delhi, there are three trains to kathgodam:-

KGM SHTBDI EXP

It departs at 6:20 am from New Delhi railway station and will reach railway station at 11:40 am.

UTR SAMPRK KRTI

It departs at 4:00 pm from New Delhi railway station and will reach railway station at 10:45 pm.

RANIKHET EXP

It departs at 8:00 pm from Delhi Cantonment railway station and will reach kathgodam at 5:05 am.

WHEN YOU CAN VISIT BRAHMATAL TREK

The Brahmatal trek can be done throughout the year, although the ideal time to visit Brahmatal trek is in winter from December to March (the expected temperature is -2 C to -5C).In Springs/Summer the ideal time is from April to June(the expected temperature is 5 C to 8 C).In autumn the ideal time is from October to November(the expected temperature is 2 C to 7 C)

The last ATM is at Dewal 25km before Lohajung
