About Kedarnath
Kedarnath is a one of the most ancient temple in India situated in the Rudraprayag district of Uttrakhand state. It is located at a height of 3,583 m, near the Mandakini river and is devoted to Lord Shiva. The region is surrounded by stunning sight of nature, snow capped mountains and greenary all around. Coimbatore to Kedarnath via Air
If you are planning to travel by air, you can take a direct flight to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, the nearest airport to Kedarnath. After reaching Dehradun, you can take a bus or taxi (easily available), to reach Sonprayag. When you reach Sonprayag, take another taxi to reach Gaurikund. The distance is 5 km and this ride will take only 15-20 minutes.
Gaurikund is the last road head to the temple. From there, the trek route starts which is 16 km long, and usually it takes 6-8 hours to complete. But this time is also depends upon your physical health and weather conditions.

Weather Conditions in Kedarnath Region
The shrine of the temple remains open for only 6 months from month of late April to November during the Chardham yatra, which took place every year. Other 6 months of the year, from November to March, the temple remains closed due to extreme cold conditions during winter.
During summer, the temperatue in the region varies from 10°C to 20° C. During winter, the cold in the hilly area leads to heavy snowfall. The best time to visit the temple is from May to June or September to October. During monsoon, heavy rain in the region mostly leads to floods and landslides.
Travel Tips while travelling or trekking to Kedarnath
- There is a problem of mobile network in the area, only BSNL and Reliance Jio sim works there.
- Carry your aadhar card or any ID, raincoat, medical kit, power batteries.
- Don’t forget to carry some light weighted winter wears even if it is not winter.
- Don’t depend upon last minute bookings, make sure to book hotel in advance.
- If you are not able to walk such long trekking distance, you can go for pony or helicopter service, which is easily available.
