About Kedarnath 

In the Uttarakhand province’s Rudraprayag district is the lovely town of Kedarnath. It is a nagar panchayat known primarily for Kedarnath Temple. About Churu

The city of Churu is the administrative headquarter of the district of Churu. This city is situated in Rajasthan’s arid interior. Churu city is the gateway to the Thar Desert. Connecting Sangrur to Ankola, it lies on the Thar desert on the National Highway 52. On the railway line to Bikaner, it is also a junction station.  The Jat landlord Chaudhary Chehru Kaler founded this town in C1620 AD. 

Distance from Churu to Kedarnath

Nowadays, so many means of transport are available to visit any place but in some places like Kedarnath we don’t have many choices if we’re looking for a pocket-friendly trip. 

Here are some ways you should consider-

Travel by road

If you travel by road then the distance from Churu to Kedarnath is about 720 km and it’d take around 14 hrs 42 min to travel from one side if you visit by your own car or cab. By road, you’ll be traveling via NH52 and NH7.

Churu-> Ratanpura-> Laseri-> Barwa-> Muklan-> Surewala-> Kalayat-> Fatehpur-> Karnal-> Gangoh-> Bargaon-> Deoband-> Manglaur->Haridwar-> Rishikesh-> Devprayag-> Srinagar-> Rudraprayag-> Agastmuni-> Guptkashi-> Gaurikund-> Kedarnath (by trek).

Travel by air  

If you travel by air then the distance is about 480 km but there is no direct flight to Kedarnath as the closest airport is located in Jolly Grant which is about at a distance of 102 km

From Jolly Grant airport you have to book a cab or bus because there is no railway line after Rishikesh. 

The cheapest and easiest way to reach Kedarnath

The easiest and the most recommended way to reach Kedarnath from Churu is-

  1. You take a train from Churu Railway station(CUR) to New Delhi(NDRS), it’d take around 4 h 55 min to reach Delhi and it’ll cost around INR760 for 2A ticket and around INR1255 for 1A ticket. The train departs at 1:10 am every day in a week. 
  2. From New Delhi, take a bus to Haridwar or Rishikesh, I’d suggest Haridwar as it is also a very holy city of India and spend some time in Haridwar and take a holy bath in the holy river Ganga then have some sleep. The bus to Haridwar will  take around 5-6 hrs and it’ll cost you around INR400.
  3. From Haridwar, there are plenty of cab services available for Kedarnath, some also provide packages for all the four chota char dham.  You should book a cab from Haridwar to Gauri Kund as it is the last stop for cab. Cab will cost you around INR2000. From Gaurikund, Kedarnath is 16 kms away and you can travel there by trekking or by Kedarnath palki services.

Weather in Kedarnath

From November to April, in the span of 6 months, the buggy with the idol of Kedarnath and of the Madhyamaheshwar temple is brought to the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath. Due to the heavy snowfall in winter months Kedarnath temple is closed and opens the month of May. It’s still very cold in summer months too. Carrying warm clothes is a suggestion.

Travel Tip

  • Time between the months of May to June and then September to October is considered to be the best time to visit the Kedarnath temple.
  • Avoid travelling in the rainy season as rain can cause roads to be blocked and landslides also.
  • As you have to walk a distance of around 10-15 kms, you should carry trekking shoes and warm clothes as well.
