YAMNOTRI DHAM:

Yamnotri Dham and devotees visit first in their Chota Char dham Yatra. This dham is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna who is the daughter of the sun and the twin sister of Yamraj. The temple is situated on the bank of the river Yamuna which flows out from Kalind Parvat. Our poorvaj (ancestors) said that, on the day of Bhaiya Dooj, Yamraj promised to Goddess Yamuna that whoever takes a dip in the Yamuna will get moksha.

GANGOTRI DHAM:

Gangotri Dham is the second Dham in the Chhota Char Dham yatra after Yamnotri. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and is located on the bank of the Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi. The Gaumukh glacier is the real source of the Ganga River, which is 19 km from Gangotri. It is said that Gangotri Dham was the place where Goddess Ganga first fell from the heavens after 1000 years.

KEDARNATH DHAM:

The third dham of char dham yatra is Kedarnath. Kedarnath is on the list of 12 Jyotilings and Panch Kedar. This dham is situated on the bank of river Mandakini. According to Mahabharata at Kurukshetra, Pandavas felt guilty for killing their blood relatives, and to get free from the sins, they needed Shiva. But Shiva hide from the Pandavas. Shiva transformed himself into a bull and dove to the ground. But Bhim recognized the bull and he immediately caught the bull’s tail.

The bull disappears into the ground and reappears at 5 different places. Hump in the Kedarnath, two forelegs in the Tungnath,  nevil and stomach in the Maheshwar, face at Rudranath and hair lock in the Kapeshwar Together, these five places are called Panch Kedar.

BADRINATH DHAM:

The fourth and the last Dham of the Chota Char Dham Yatra is Badrinath Dham. It is the most visited Dham. This temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu and is located at Nar and Narayan Parvat on the bank of the Alaknanda River. This is the only dham that is a part of the Chota Char Dham or Char Dham Yatra.
