Chaukhutia is a small town in Almora district of Uttarakhand located on the bank of river Ramganga. Its name is derived from a Kumauni word which means “Chau-Khut” i.e. Four Feet. In their context four feet means four directions or ways. The first way is towards Karanprayag, second towards Ranikhet and Almora, third towards Ramnagar and the fourth towards Tadagtaal, Kheera. Chaukhutia is also known as a former capital of Katyiru dynasty. It is situated at an elevation of 1650 metres above sea level.

Chaukhutia Uttarakhand consists of many beautiful and ancient temples and forts. Unlike any other district Chaukhutia is unchoted hence the beauty is mesmerizing and astonishing. Chaukhutiya weather is very pleasing as well as cool climate throughout the year.

Mythology about Chaukhutia:

According to the local people of Chaukhutia there is a cave named Pandukholi Cave which has an untold story from Mahabharatha times. It is said that Pandavas made this cave during their time of their stay in this town.

Apart from this fact Chaukhutia also has few sacred Hindu temples which are dedicated to Rudreshwar Mahadev and Goddesss Kali with many ancient tales related to these temples.
