Chardham yatra is a peaceful journey to four shrines located in Uttarakhand- Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri. Due to weather conditions, Chardham in Uttarakhand remains open for six months only. Chardham temples open in the summer month April-May. The temples remain closed during the winter period for all the pilgrims. It closes at the beginning of winter in October-November. During this period the main deity of the four dhams is shifted to close by villages.
The auspicious opening and closing dates of the Chardham temple are decided by the temple priest. These dates are considered through the Hindu calendar Panchang.

Kedarnath Temple Opening and Closing Dates 2023
The opening date of the Kedarnath shrine is decided and announced on the date of Maha Shivratri. Every year Kedarnath temple closes on Bhai Dooj. This year, the Kedarnath temple will open on Akshay Tritya i.e.22 April 2023 (tentative), and will be closed for devotees on 6 November 2023.
Note: On the closing day of Kedarnath Dham special pujas are performed. During the winter period, the deity is shifted to Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath.
Badrinath Temple Opening and Closing Dates 2023
Each year, Badrinath Dham’s opening date is decided on Basant Panchmi and closing dates on Vijayadashami. For Chardham Yatra 2023, the gates of the Badrinath temple will open on 9 May 2023 (tentative) and will get closed on 10 November 2023.
Note: During winters, Lord Badrinath’s Utsav Murti is shifted to Narasimha temple located in Joshimath.
Yamunotri Temple Opening and Closing Dates 2023
On the holy eve of Akshay Tritya, Yamunotri temple gates are opened every year. The Yamunotri Dham get closed on Bhai Dooj. This year the Yamunotri temple will open on 22 April 2023 and on 6 November 2023 it will get closed.
Note: In winters, the doli of ma Yamuna is brought to Kharsali.
Gangotri Temple Opening and Closing Dates 2023
Gangotri Dham dwar gets open each year on Akshay Tritya and closes on the day after Diwali. Gangotri temple will open on 22 April 2023 and will be closed on 5 November 2023.
Note: The Ganga ma idol of Gangotri temple during the winter period is kept at a nearby located village Mukhba.

The month of April, May and June is the best time for Chardham Yatra. During these months climate remains pleasant. You should avoid visiting Chardham during the monsoon as heavy rainfall and landslides are common during this season.
