Chamba district is one of the most famous hill stations situated in Himachal Pradesh. This famous tourist destination is situated at an altitude of 1006 metres on the bank of Ravi River (a tributary of Himalayan Indus River). Chamba town is known as “Land of Lord Shiva”. It provides lovely views of Himachal with scenic beauty, meadows, dense alpine forests, wildlife and enchanted valley. Chamba is distributed on 2 terraces; on lower area there is public offices and Bhuri Singh Museum and on upper area there is residential area.

Chamba district was a princely state, this place is blessed with marvellous and ineffable architecture and numerous things to be explored.

Chamba Trek:

The total duration of Chamba Trek is approx. 11km and takes 4 to 5 hours for trekking offering breath-taking views and charming natural beauty. The trek passes from the snow peaked mountains and River Ravi flowing down the Chamba valley. It is one of the best ways to explore the beauty of Himalayas with mesmerizing view, charming riverside villages, mountain scenery, beautiful trails and soothing forests.

History of Chamba:

Chamba is named after champavati (kings daughter after 10 sons). champavati urged her father to build a new capital in the valley. And with that land new capital was build and was named as champa which was later shortened as chamba

How to reach Chamba:

The base camp for this pass is Balawat region of Uttarkashi district. Below are some few ways to reach Balawat through different modes of transportation-

By Air: The nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun which is approx. 240kms far from Balawat, the base camp. After landing at Dehradun further journey is done by roadways.

By Train: Dehradun is the closest railways (Nandadevi Express, Dehradun Express etc) to this trek and further distance is covered by roadways.

By Road: Direct Bus can be catched to Balawat from Dehradun or directly book a taxi to Balawat.

Chamba route:

The trek route of the famous bugyal is as follows

Day 1 Pickup from Dehradun/ Chandigarh to Balawat and stay in Balawat Hotel (10 hrs)

Day 2 Starting from Balawat region to Sunaooti Thach and overnight stay in tents (5-6 hrs for 8 km trekking)

Day 3 Starting trek from Sunaooti Thach to Samta Thach and overnight stay in tents (7-8 hrs for 14 km trekking)

Day 4 Exploring the day

Day 5 Starting from Samta Thach to Tikula Thach and overnight stay in tents (5-6 hrs)

Day 6 Starting from Tikula Thach to Dagaan Moriyach and overnight stay in tents (4-5 hrs)

Day 7 Starting from Dagaan Moriyach to Chinwa (3-4 hrs).

The last day of the Chamba ends with an easy downhill walk and departure for Dehradun.
