Camping in Chandrashila

Chandrashila is the name of the peak above Tungnath temple. It relates directly to “Moon Rock.” Chandrashila stands at a height of approx 3,690 meters above sea level. This is believed that this is a place where Lord Rama defeated the demon king Ravana.

Take a bus or taxi from Rudraprayag to Ukhimath or Kund, then take another taxi for Chopta
The magnificent route from Ukimath to Chopta provides many camping opportunities. If you want peace and privacy, camp at a common site near the road or look for a peaceful spot to camp. The climb from Chopta to Chadrashila takes around 2 hours, so start your trek before 4 a.m, If you want to view the sunrise from the peak, which is well worth it and beautiful in the early morning.

BEST TIME TO VISIT CHANDRASHILA CAMPING

• April, June, October, and December are the best times to visit Chandrashila.
• Winter treks are also available in Chandrashila. The ideal months are January and March.
• Early in the morning and late at night, the Himalayas may be seen clearly, and a cool breeze can be felt. Take light woolen clothes because the cool breeze cold the weather.
• During the monsoon, Chopta becomes greener but trekking becomes difficult and roads may be stopped for a few hours because of landslides, the beauty of Chopta during the monsoon season is well worth the risk.
• Raincoats are recommended in monsoon season.
