About Agstyamuni

Augustmuni is a town this is situated around the banks of the Mandakini river in Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand, India. It is located around 19 km at a distance from the city of Rudraprayag, and that place is named after the Hindu/ Yogi SIDDHAR AGASTYA who was one of the seven rishis or Saptarishis. Phata is approximately 38 km’s from Augustmuni on the way to kedarnath and 16 km’s short of Gaurikund

there are a number of diffrent legends releted to this place. according to one legnend ,its is believed that whenever saint Agustya went to this place ,it was scared by two monster who ware name Aatapi Vatapi.These monsters used to disguise themesleve and invite people of thire place of lunch .Innocent saints used to agree to thire offer and vist thire place.

these people were innocent and they didn’t understant about their cruel practices. It is belief that when the saints used to visit their place, one of the monster used to transform himself into a dwarf and then he used to hide out the food provided to those people

Doing this he used to get into the person body and after that cut it out form the inside when called by the monster .the monster the ate the person .people was terrified by the two monster brothers and asked saints Augsta for help.

listening to people’s problem, Augusta him self visited the place where monsters live. He went there to consume the food which they offer to the Saints. The monsters offere him food and used the same trick which they used for other saints and Saint Augusta started doing a few spells. The spells destroyed one of the monster.   And after that the people living there got rid of the two cruel monsters through the help of Saint Augusta.

This temple is locally called as Agasteshwar Mahadev.  Inside the temple, the pictures of Hindu deities have been created on the stones on the walls. The city is also known for the fairs that local people manage here. Agastyamuni plays a host for a massive fair which takes place during the celebration of Baisakhi. During this fair, devotees worship and pay their obeisance to the deite They also throng here to celebrate the festival of Baisakhi.
