Chandrashila is usually known as ‘Moon’s rock’ is the summit of Tungnath. It is seated on Chandranath parvat on which Tungnath temple is situated. It comes under Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary and is a treat for trekking as well as wildlife lovers. Located at the height of 12110 ft from the sea level provides a panorama view of the great Himalaya range like Kedar dome, Nandadevi, Trishul parvat, Chaukhambha peak, Bandarpunch, etc. Chandrashila trek is one of the popular treks in Uttarakhand as this exhilarating trek can be done throughout the year. The base camp of this trek is Chopta. This trek takes one through dazzling meadows, mesmerizing valley, deodars forest, widespread rhododendron trees, and beautiful Tungnath shrine. It is about 5 km from Chopta.

History of Chandrashila
As the name suggests Moons rock it is believed that Moon-god Chandra spent time here in penance. Another ancient saying is that Lord Rama meditated here after defeating demon king Ravana.

Chandrashila is about a 5 km trek from Chopta, the road is connected to Chopta only.
Note: if you are going for the first time make sure you are not going to the different chopta as there is another Chopta near Rudraprayag. Ask your guide or confirm with localities.
By air: Jolly grant airport is located in Dehradun district and the nearest airport to chopta which is 220 km by road.
By train: Rishikesh railway station which is the nearest railway station to chopta which is 200 km by road.
By bus: The buses are available from Rishikesh, Dehradun, Haridwar to ukhimath. From ukhimath you can hire a taxi to Chopta.
