Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple is a chain of caves within caves made of limestone rocks. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at a distance of 14 km away from Gangolihat in the Bhubneshwar village of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand at the Altitude of 1350m above Sea level.

The path to the temple is inside a long, narrow tunnel, which is at a depth of 90 feet. Patal Bhuvaneshwar is mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva along with this the Half Lord Ganesha, Garurh, Shesh Nag, Vashuki Nag, Shivling, etc. are present inside the cave.

History of Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave

It is believed to be the holiest place where the result of the Chardham yatra. It is said in Treeta Yug the king of Ayodhya Raja Rituprana came into this cave after a deer then he was blessed with the presence of Lord Shiva and 33 crores of Devi-Devtas. According to Skand Puran, it is believed that couples will be blessed with a child if they fill kund with rice inside the cave. This cave was discovered by Adi Sankaracharya in 1191 A.D.
