History of Ranikhet Uttarakhand
Ranikhet establishment site. Legend has it that Padmavati, the queen of King Sudhadev of the Katyuri dynasty, used to come and rest in the green fields at this place (Ranikhet) for a summer stay. The queen was overwhelmed by the beauty of this place, for this reason, King Sudhadev established a palace at this place. The place was named Queen’s Field because the queen migrated to the fields. At that time, the king used to build beautiful pillars on the border of the state, wherever the place was conquered.
One of these pillars, Ranikhet was also established between the road leading to Almora near the Somnath ground and the Yadunath gate the army established this pillar as a Shivalinga in September 2015 in a new beautiful temple near the Shiva temple with religious law. Statues of various deities have been carved in this column knowledgeable people say that these pillars must have been established 1,450 or earlier Therefore, this place is called the place of establishment of Ranikhet.

Jhula Devi Temple is a popular religious place located 7 km from the city of Ranikhet. It is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga. According to Hindu mythology, this temple was constructed in the 8th century and the aim was to keep the grace of Mother Durga on the wild animals living at this place. It is believed that a shepherd appeared in a dream by Goddess Durga and suggested to dig here and remove her idol. The temple is located exactly where the idol was found. The beautifully carved sacred bells are carved in the temple, and the sound of these bells is clearly heard from a distance. Pilgrims believe that mother Jhoola Devi fulfills the wishes of people praying in the temple. You also get an opportunity to visit a Ram temple, which is located nearby.
