Shri shiv (Prakasheshwar) Mahadev Mandir Dehradun

Shri shiv (Prakasheshwar) Mahadev Mandir Dehradun

About Shiv Mandir

It is popularly known as Prakasheshwar Mahadev Mandir among locals as well as visitors. Shiv Mandir is one of the famous religious places of uttarakhand. This temple is specifically dedicated to Lord Shiva. Everyday the temple is specially  decorated with flowers for lord shiva. Special poojas are held on the occasion of Shivratri & Sawaan.

Prakasheshwar Mahadev Temple comes on the way from Dehradun to Mussoorie. Due to this temple being on the mountain, the beautiful view of Dehradun can be seen from there. One of the features of this temple is that no devotee is allowed to offer money in this temple, that is because according to the temple organisation, what we give to Lord Shiva, we got from shiva.

Therefore, at some place in the temple on the note board, (please do not give any kind of donation to the temple) is written. Due to this feature of the temple, this temple is very famous because it is the only temple in India where no donations are taken.

The building of this temple is very beautiful. This temple is of red flourish colour. The temple is blessed with spiritual experiences for devotees to experience peace of mind. This temple is decorated with flowers during the Shivaratri festival.

History and mythology

This temple is also unique at this point because you will not find Lord Shiva temple with this name except in Dehradun. ‘Parkasheshwar’ is a combination of two Hindi words ‘Prakash’ and ‘Eshwar’. Prakash means “Light” and “Eshwar” means God.

Lord Shiva has thousands of names which are mentioned in Shiv Sahastranamavali. There is a name in the Shiv Sahastranamavali for Lord Shiva, ‘Prakaashaay’ which means ‘Lord Shiva is the light of knowledge’.

Why this temple famous for

This Lord Shiva temple is fully owned by an unknown owner who has not disclosed his name anywhere. The whole management of the temple is controlled by the private owner. There are big hoardings on which clearly mention that ‘this is a private temple so don’t donate money anywhere’.

You can see this statement written in the temple in many places. Although it is a private temple, this temple is very well managed and very neat and clean with all facilities. There is no donation box inside or outside of the temple which is very common in other temples.

You can see everywhere in this Parkasheshwar Shiv Mandir a notice board with a written message “God gives money to everyone so don’t try to give money to God”.

These types of the temple show the real faith of the devotee in Lord Shiva. I personally have not seen such types of temples where no donation is accepted by the temple management.
