Jwalamukhi Temple is located in the Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Goddess Sati and is also dedicated to the “Goddess of Light”. it is also a very famous temple. The tongue Goddess Sati fell on this divine site. It is believed that Raja Bhumi Chand Kataksha of Kangra was a great devotee of Goddess Durga. It was he who got the temple built at this place. And then later Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Raja Sansar Chand completed the complete construction of this temple in 1835. The Jwalamukhi temple is modernly built. Whose dome is made of gold and has a beautiful folding door made of silver plates. It is said that 9 flames of Mother Shakti are ignited here. The temple of Maa Jwala Devi is one of the most pilgrimage places of Hinduism in Northern India. This temple is situated at a distance of 30 km from the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Jwalamukhi Jwalamukhi Temple is also called Jota Wali’s Temple and Nagarkot. The special feature of this temple, situated in the quiet foothills of Kali Dhar mountain, is that there is no idol of the goddess here. Here 9 flames of Mother Shakti are ignited and they are worshiped these nine lights are known as Mahakali, Annapurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Vindhyavasini, Mahalakshmi, Saraswati, Ambika, Anjidevi. Here the blazing flame burns continuously without ghee, without oil, without lamp and wick. This flame breaks through the stone and comes out. The temple has a copper pipe from which natural gas is released and the temple priests have lit it to produce a flawless blue flame.

History of Jwalamukhi Temple in Kangra

One of the 51 shaktipeeths of goddess Sati built in India is the Jwalamukhi temple. Additionally, this Shaktipeeth is described in the Mahabharat, the Devi Bhagwat, and the Skanda Puran. The key event in Maa Jwalamukhi’s history is when King Daksh held a magnificent Yagya in Kankhal, which is now known as Haridwar, and invited all the gods there, with the exception of Mahadev and his consort mother Sati. Goddess Sati went there despite Lord Shankar’s objections, and when she saw Lord Shiva being humiliated, she was unable to stand it. Saddened by this, she leaped into the Havan Kund and abandoned her body. Later, Lord Shankar placed her burned remains in a trident. When this happened, Goddess Sati’s tongue had fallen here.

Festivals are celebrated at Jwalamukhi Mandir. The fair at Jwalamukhi temple is held twice a year in the month of March to April and September to October during the Navratri of Chaitra and Ashwini. Where devotees go around the Jwala Kund. In which the holy fire burns and they offer their offerings. The center of Gorakh Panthi Nath is situated near Gorakh Tibi Jwala Kund. Visiting Timing of Jwalamukhi Temple in Kangra

The gates of Jwalamukhi Temple are open on all days of the week. The time to visit this temple is between 7:00 am to 11:00 am in the morning hours and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the evening hours. Havan is conducted daily in this temple and Rabri Mishri is offered to the Goddess in addition to regular offerings of seasonal fruits and milk.

Aarti Timing of Jwalamukhi Temple in Kangra

Aarti is held in this temple 5 times a day. The first aarti takes place at around 05:00 am – 6:00 am (in summer) and 6:00 am – 7:00 am (in winter) in the morning when the temple gates open, this aarti is called “Mangal Aarti”. The next aarti is called “Panjupchar Pujan” which takes place at around 06:00 am onward (in summer) and 7:00 am onward (in winter) and is performed during sunrise. The next Ais is known as “Bhog ki Aarti” and here the deities are bathed with fruits, milk, etc around 11:00 am – 12:00 pm(in summer) and 11:00 am -12:00 pm (in winter). The next aarti is known as the “evening Aarti“ 07:00 – 8:00 pm (in summer) and 6:00 pm-7:00pm (in winter). The last aarti is done around 9:00 pm-10:00 pm (in summer) & 8:00 pm-9:00 pm (in winter). This is a very special Aarti known as “Sayan Ki Aarti” where the bed of the Goddess is beautifully decorated with flowers and ornaments. This aarti is performed in two stages. The first phase takes place inside the main temple and the second takes place inside the SEZ building. Apart from these aartis, daily shlokas are recited.
