Chardham Yatra: Devotees started decreasing after the peak season, but why? Here Hemkund Sahib Yatra resumes amidst snow
After the snowfall, the cold has increased in Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath.
Uttarakhand Pilgrimage : Where 50,790 devotees had reached the four Dhams on 1st June, only 36,967 reached on 19th June. That is, the numbers have reduced by about 27%. When was peak season? After the peak season, the number of devotees in Kedarnath has fallen by more than 40%. Why is this happening?
Dehradun/Chamoli. The Hemkund Sahib Yatra, which was stopped due to heavy rain and snowfall in the mountains for three days, has been started once again. However, due to snowfall here, the cold has increased a lot. Here, even before the onset of monsoon in Uttarakhand, the number of devotees in the Char Dham Yatra is seen decreasing. The Char Dham Yatra, which started on May 3, was in the news for the record numbers of devotees for almost a month, but now there is a significant decline in these numbers.
Talking about the numbers of the first Char Dham Yatra, the number of visitors coming to Badrinath every day has come down to around 14,000, whereas till about a week and a half ago, around 19,000 people were coming here. For example, according to the official registration figures, 18,926 passengers had arrived here on June 8, but only 14,103 passengers arrived on June 19. That is, there was a clear decline of about 25% in the number of devotees. In Kedarnath, these numbers are showing more decline than this.
If we look at the figures of Kedarnath, on June 1, 16,748 devotees had reached here, but on June 19, this number was reduced to 9424 i.e. a decrease of about 44% in the number of devotees. Similarly, in the first week of June in Gangotri, an average of 9000 devotees and in Yamunotri about 7000 devotees were reaching daily, whereas now even these two dhams are barely reaching 5000 devotees every day.
23,38,000 pilgrims reached so far
8 lakh devotees in Badrinath
7,78,000 in Kedarnath
4 lakh in Gangotri
3,10,000 in Yamunotri
96,000 devotees visited Hemkund Sahib
Why is the number of pilgrims decreasing?
Weather and holidays are the two main reasons behind less arrival of pilgrims in Char Dham. Chamoli SP Shweta Choubey was quoted as saying in a news, ‘From May 26 to June 8, the yatra was at its peak. Now the numbers are decreasing because one, the rainy season is starting and the holidays of schools and colleges are ending. The effect of the Yellow Alert was also shown on the number of passengers.
Hemkund Sahib Yatra resumes
There was heavy rain in the mountains on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, then the pilgrims were stopped at Ghangaria and Govind Ghat due to snowfall after three days of rain in Hemkund Sahib. In the midst of freezing of snow for 1 to 2 feet in the Dham, the pilgrims reached Hemkund Sahib as soon as the weather cleared on Tuesday morning. The devotees arriving here are also very excited to see snowfall in the month of June.
Devotees from Punjab, Haryana and Delhi have reached Hemkund in good numbers in the month of June. Devotees are saying that it is very rare to have snowfall in June. Although there has been light snowfall on the peaks of Hemkund Sahib, but snow is seen up to 2 feet, it is rare. Here, after 3 consecutive days of rain in Badrinath Dham, today it was sunny on Tuesday.
