Kedarnath Temple is one of the Chardham Yatra, which is located in the Himalayan Mountains of Uttarakhand.

This Jyotirlinga of Kedarnath temple is the most important of all the 12 Jyotirlingas, which is located at a height of 3584 meters. The places around the Kedarnath Temple are equally beautiful.

1. Sonprayag

Sonprayag, located at an altitude of 1829 meters, is a famous site where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married. Surrounded by the beautiful nature and spectacular snow-capped peaks, it is also a place where the Mandakini River meets the Basuki River.

It is believed that devotees can achieve Baikunth Dham only by the touch of water. This place is located 20.4 km away from Kedarnath.

2. Vasuki Tal Lake

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu took a bath in this lake on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Hence it was named Vasuki Tal. Travelers can also enjoy the beautiful view of the Chaukhamba peaks from Vasuki Tal.

The beautiful view of the Himalayan ranges and the quiet lake compels tourists to come here.  the places around Vasuki Tal are best for trekking. You can reach Vasuki Tal Lake from Kedarnath temple by a trek of 8 km.

3. Triyugi Narayan Temple Kedarnath

Triyugi Narayan is the village where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married. Both of them were married in front of Lord Vishnu, so the Triyugi Narayan temple was built in his honor.

It is believed that Lord Vishnu made all the arrangements for this marriage as Parvati’s brother, while Lord Brahma played the role of a priest. This temple is located at a distance of 12 km from Sonprayag and if you are visiting Kedarnath temple this place also you have to visit.

4. Bhairavnath Temple Kedarnath

Bhairavnath Temple is situated 500 meters away from Kedarnath temple in the south direction. It is situated on top of a hill and offers spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayas and the entire Kedarnath valley below. Bhairavnath Temple is established by the revered Hindu deity Lord Bhairav. Lord Bhairav ​​is considered to be the main place of Lord Shiva and hence this temple is even more important. Not just for darshan, visit this temple to take your breath away from the breathtaking views of the valley. The revered deity of the temple is also known as Kshetrapal or protector of the field, he has a trident for a weapon and a dog as his vehicle. Bhairavnath temple remains closed for the most part of winter. It remains open only for a few months i.e., from May to November. Bhairavnath Temple is located at a distance of about half a kilometer from Kedarnath Temple, so you can either walk or walk.

5. Gaurikund Kedarnath

Gaurikund is situated on the banks of river Mandakini and is considered the gateway to spirituality and salvation. Situated at an altitude of about 2,000 meters above sea level, Gaurikund Temple and Gauri Lake are important sites for which the place is famous around Kedarnath temple.

Due to the Vasuki Ganga flowing beneath, the surrounding view is full of greenery. This quaint small village is named after a thermal spring that is no longer there after the 2013 floods, but a small stream of hot water still flows over the spot where the pool used to be. Gaurikund is 6 kms away from Sonprayag.

6. Rudra Cave Kedarnath

Rudra Cave is an underground stone meditation cave situated 1 km from the Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand. After the general elections in 2019 Prime Minister Narendra Modi meditated here Rudra cave become most popular.

The cave is maintained by the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) and has housing for one person. The cave has a single bed, a bathroom with a Geyser facility, a water heater, a ceiling bell, etc. Many facilities are available. you can see the Kedarnath temple and Bhairavnath Temple very well from the cave.
