As per legend, Ruler Brahma had played out a yagna (Vedic ceremony of fire penance) to satisfy Shakti and Shiva to support the formation of the universe. Accordingly, Goddess Shakti isolated from Shiva and arose to help Brahma. When her motivation was satisfied, Shakti must be gotten back to Shiva. In time, Brahma’s child Daksha played out a few yajnas to get Shakti as his girl as Sati, with the thought process of wedding her to Master Vishnu.
Daksha played out a yajna with a longing to get back at Ruler Shiva. Daksha welcomed every one of the divinities to the yajna, aside from Shiva and Sati. The way that she was not welcomed didn’t hinder Sati’s longing to go to the yajna. She communicated her longing to Shiva, who made an honest effort to prevent her from going. He yielded at her proceeded with demand, Sati went to her dad’s yajna. Nonetheless, Sati was not given her due regard at the yajna, and needed to demonstrate the veracity of Daksha’s put-downs focused on Shiva. Anguished, Sati reviled her dad and self-immolated.
Angered at the affront and passing of his life partner, Shiva in his Virabhadra symbol annihilated Daksha’s yajna and removed his head. His resentment not lessened and submerged in pain, Shiva then got the remaining parts of Sati’s body and played out the Tandava, the divine dance of obliteration, across all creation. Terrified, different Divine beings mentioned Vishnu to mediate to stop this obliteration. As a response, Vishnu utilized the Sudarshana Chakra on Sati’s cadaver. This made different pieces of Sati’s body fall at a few spots across the world.
