About Sankri
Sankri is a small village with an estimated population of 300 people. Located at an altitude of 1920m (about 1.19 mi) in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state. It is known that it is a 300-year-old valley. The houses in the village are made up of wooden logs and mud. The locals highly depend on agriculture and tourism for their survival. The homestay owner will welcome you with warm hospitality. You can enjoy local delicious cuisines and another benefit of halting in homestays is that you can learn more about the local cultures and traditions of the place.
Sankri is the gateway to all treks in the Himalayan region. Sankri is the base camp of many treks like Har ki Dun, Baraadsar Lake, Dev Kyara, Borasu Pass, Bali Pass, Kedarkantha, Swarga Rohini, and many others. Sankri is also famous for activities like hiking, bird watching, village tourism, zip-line, jeep riding, cycling, homestays, yoga, and meditation. In January and February sankri receives a hefty amount of snowfall. Although you cannot predict the weather in these types of places. Due to frequent travelers, the snowfall doesn’t last more than a few days or weeks. The average temperature in Sankri is about 10 to 15 degrees.
How to reach Sankri from Dehradun
In recent times, the hike in tourism has given sankri exposure to the external world. The distance between Dehradun to Sankri is 200 km (about 124.27 mi). The travel between Dehradun to Sankri is not easy as there is no commute apart from buses and taxis.
By Bus
Private Bus: – From Gandhi Road near the Railway station one can get buses at regular intervals from 5:30 am. The whole journey between Dehradun to Sankri will take 10-11 hours.
Government Bus: – From Mussoorie roadways bus station you can get government buses at regular intervals from 8:00 am. The whole journey between Dehradun to Sankri by govt bus will take 8-9 hours.
By Car
Personal Car: – Dehradun to sankri car trip will be the most enjoyable road trip option. You can enjoy the beautiful landscapes during the road trip. The route to Sankri is: –
