Tungnath treks is one of the most adventurous treks situated in the beautiful valleys of Uttrakhand, prominently known for 1000 yrs Tungnath Temple also known as the Lord Shiva world’s highest Temple and the most fascinating and breathtaking views of lush Mountains in the midst of the cloud.

Tungnath is at the height of 11,380 feet above sea level and Chandrashila’s is 13,100 feet above sea level. To make the trip more adventurous you can visit in winter (around December), where you can see the green mountains covered with snow.

Which Season is the best to Visit Chopta Tungnath?

The best time to visit Chopta is from April – to October because the Tungnath temple is closed after November due to harsh weather and heavy rainfall the slopes are a bit slippery and dangerous to hike In December the region is covered in up to 4 to 8 feet thick snow and a most of the roads to Chopta are blocked in the winters. Although there is another route of 11-12km trek to reach Chopta i.e via Deoria Tal.

In winter the temperature varies from 9 °C in the day and -8 °C at night, so it’s advisable to carry with you thick warm woolen clothes. Nevertheless, with the right itinerary, all seasons are better to enjoy the great views.

If you are planning a trip for winter ( around nov-Feb), there are some mindful things to carry to make your trekking journey comfortable.

  • It is best to carry enough water bottles since there are no major stoppage points on the way from Chopta to Tungnath.
  • Trekking/hiking boots are a must for stability on slippery slopes.
  • Thick warm clothes, raincoats, and sunscreen are a must for protection.
  • A better way to deal with hunger is to carry some light snacks you can munch on your way to Tungnath.
  • For Old people and children, it’s advisable to carry a stick for support while trekking.
  • Carry mostly cash and power banks as you won’t have any access to ATMs and charging points on your way.

These things will help to have a smooth and comfortable trek.
