Budhakedar temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to loading shiva. The name of the village is thati and budhakedar is our pilgrimage. Thati village is situated on the banks of rivers dham Ganga and bal ganga. It is the largest shivling ever found in north India and is called the fifth Dham after Kedarnath. The people near budhakedar do not go to Kedarnath as they worship budhakedar only. The journey to char dham is considered successful only when you visit the budhakedar. Budhakedar which is about 60 km by road from New Tehri is also known as BoodhaKedar Temple among locals. It is surrounded by numerous huts and terraced fields for cultivation amidst mountainous tehri Garhwal Himalayas. Budhakedar allows the visitor a glimpse into the lives of hill folk. The mythological belief of this ancient temple situated at the confluence of Balganga and Dharmaganga, The Chardham Yatra used to pass through this place in ancient times. From Gangotri, travelers used to reach Budhakedar via Bhatwadi and from here via Ghuttu, they used to reach Kedarnath Dhamma via Trijuginarayan road via Panwalikantha. It is one of the famous shiv temples in Uttarakhand and is also famous for mind-blowing views, trekking, and camps.

History& Mythology Of Budhakedar Temple:-

It is believed that in ancient times when there was a war between Kauravas and Pandavas the sin of killing the gotra was imposed on Pandavas. Ved Vyas asked the Pandavas to go to the Himalayas for shiva darshan to clear their sins. Pandavas reached Bhrigunath Mountain and saw an old mahatma doing penance at the place (budhakedar). When the Pandavas came to this place mahatma disappeared at the same time. There was an akashwani that ‘I am here in the old form from here you go towards Kedarnath via swagarohani’. Pandavas realized that this is the place where they can clear their sins. After that, this place is called budhakedar representing the old Kedarnath mandir. In ancient times budhakedar was the main stop at the time of the Chardham yatra. People believed that if they pray to god in budhakedar they can also clear their sins.

As you all know Uttarakhand is a land of gods and goddesses and the budhakedar temple is devoted to lord shiva. This temple is famous for its natural surroundings like the rivers Dham Ganga and Bal Ganga. The mythology of Kauravas and Pandavas makes it a more interesting place to visit as we can see the old Kedarnath. As this temple is located in Garhwal tehri we can see much beautiful oak and pine forests surrounding the temple.

-local people say that whatever water you put in this shivling it will be absorbed.

Budhakedar shiv temple can be visited any time of the year but in Shivratri many people from Garhwal and Kumaon region visit this temple to worship lord shiva. The weather is pleasant and cool.

Caution: Avoid going during the monsoon season as there is a high chance of landslides and heavy rainfall.

So, if you like winter then the best time to visit this temple is from (Oct –Feb)

Or if you like summer then the best time to visit this temple is from (May-July)

This temple is located In tehri Garhwal, thati village Uttarakhand. About 60km from terhi dam this place and be found by going tehri dam to ghansali, then ghansali to chamiyala, then to Thati village boodha kedar.
