Badhangarhi Temple (also known as Maa Badhangarhi Mandir) is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Kali, revered as Maa Dakshineshwar kali or Bhagwati. The nearest town to Badhangarhi is Gwaldam, 8 km from the main temple of Badhangarhi. The temple is located at an altitude of about 2260 m. This tabernacle was a part of Badhangarhi which is one of the 52 garh of Garhwal positioned at the left bank of Pindar swash. According to the legends, the original tabernacle was erected by katyuri King, who ruled this region from the 8th to 12th century. Badhangarhi is deduced from two words Badhan and Garhi, in which Badhan refers to a pargana or Chamoli Garhwal and Garhi relates to a stronghold, which is positioned at the mountain top.
