Joshimath is a holy town with religious importance to the followers of Hinduism. Joshimath located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand North India is the gateway to several exceptional Himalayan expeditions, including the pilgrimage journey towards Badrinath Temple & Kedarnath Temple and a trip to the ski resort destination of Auli. Joshimath also happens to be the winter seat of the divine deity of the Lord Badrinath, whose idol is brought down from Badrinath temple to Vasudeva temple at Joshimath, when the original temple becomes inaccessible due to snowfall. Joshimath is also nicknamed Jyotirmath, today Joshimath is the gateway to numerous trails and ancient routes among the snow-clad mountains.

History of Joshimath

Joshimath is the home to one of the four main religious institutions established by Adi Shankaracharya, an 8th-century Hindu philosopher, theologian, and Guru. The temple established by Shankaracharya belongs to Lord Narsimha a Vishnu avatar and it is counted as one of the One zero eight “Divya Desams” as accounted by the Tamil sage-poets or Alvars.

Bhavishya Badri is one of the Panch Badri temples, established at a height of 2745 meters from Joshimath.

Bhavishya Kedar Temple

Bhavishya Kedar temple is a shiva temple dedicated to lord shiva and Goddess Parvati. Bhavishya Kedar as the name depicts is believed to the home of Kedarnath in the Future. The Bhavishya Kedar temple has a small Shivalinga and an image of Parvati.

Narsingh Temple

This temple is very popular in the temple in Joshimath. Famous as a part of Sapt Badri, Narsingh Temple is also known as Narsingh Badri, a sacred place to visit in Joshimath.

By Air

The closest airport from Joshimath is Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun at 270 km away from Dehradun. The Jolly Grant airport is well connected with direct flights from Delhi and some major cities of the country. The journey takes times about 9-10 hours from the Jolly Grant airport to Joshimath.

By Rail

The nearby railway station from Joshimath is at Rishikesh at 254 km away and Haridwar is 274 km away from Joshimath.

By Road

There are regular state buses and private buses from Delhi’s ISBT bus stand to Joshimath. and some other buses from other major destinations nearby, such as Rishikesh, Haridwar, Chamoli, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, etc.
