Aadi Shankaracharya, the greatest Priest of the Hindu religion installed the murti of Chandi Devi in the 8th century. As it is said to be the main murti of Chandi Devi.

According to Hindu mythology, this temple in Uttarakhand is also known as Neel parvath Teerth or a panch teerth.

History of Chandi Devi Temple Haridwar – Dev Dham Yatra

Haridwar, a holy city in the state of Uttarakhand, Chandi Devi Temple is dedicated to Adi Shakti. This Dham of Goddess Chandi Devi is present on the Neel Parvat of the eastern peak of the hills of the southern mountain range of the Himalayas. This temple of Chandi Devi is one of the ancient temples of India. It is believed that this temple of Chandi Devi is one of the 52 Shaktipeeths.

According to Hindu mythology Chandi Devi Temple, a Hindu temple was built by King Suchat Singh of Kashmir in the year of 1929. However, the main idol of Chandi Devi was installed in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya, called one of the greatest priests of Hinduism. This beautiful Chandi Devi Haridwar temple of India also called “Neel Parvat Teerth or Panch Teerth, is mentioned in Hindu sculptures.

Maa Chandi Devi is also known as Chandika is the main deity of this temple. In ancient times there used to be demon kings Shumbh and Nishumbh. Who captured the kingdom of Indra who was called the God of heaven. Shumbh and Nishumbh expelled all the devas from heaven. To get Devlok back, the devas of inderlok requested Mother Parvati, so that their kingdom would be returned to them. To get devlok back, Goddess Parvati took the form of Goddess Chandi.

After seeing her allure, Shumbha wanted to marry her and send a proposal to the Goddess, but she reject her proposal, which make Shumbha very angry and sent two demons, Chand and Munda, to kill the Goddess.

Both of them were killed by Maa Chamunda. After this, both Shumbha and Nishumbha tried to kill Goddess Chandika, but the Goddess killed both the demons. It is said that after killing Shumbha-Nishumbha, the goddess rested on the Neel Parvat for a short time, Chandi Devi temple Haridwar in India was later built here. In this neel parvat there are two peaks, which are named Shumbh and Nishumbh.
