The park has a length of 8 km and 2km wide. In 1992 the declaration of being a national park was given to the valley and now the site is marked as World Heritage. The different and wide variety of different colors give a radiant view of the valley. The Uttarakhand Valley of Flowers National Park is also known as Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve’s second Core zone.

History of Valley of Flowers National Park
Uttarakhand The valley of flowers was out of knowledge for most of the parts of the world due to its remote location. Henceforth its beauty was also under the reach of a limited population of the world. Then there were three mountaineers (E. Shipton, Romilly L. Holdsworth, F.S. Smythe) from the United Kingdom who were searching for their way accidentally reached the Valley of Flowers Uttarakhand and explored the floral beauty and the mountain range along with the Trekking spot. They discovered the Valley in the year 1931. Thereafter exploration studies were carried out for the management of the valley and for maintaining the Floral Beauty of the valley.

Malari:
Near the Indio-Tibetian border resides a mini village in the Chamoli District near Joshimath. It is located in the Dhauli Ganga valley at a height of 3048 m. Malari is surrounded by mountains that are covered by snow due to which the people of the village have to move to the lower parts of the Himalayan range. It is also called the old Himalayan village which has very distinctive architecture & slate roofing of the old houses. It is one of the outlying villages of Uttarakhand.
Pandukeshwar:
Pandukeshwar is a holy place in the Uttarakhand Valley of Flowers placed at an elevation of 1829m. It is believed to be the place where the Pandu, the father of Pandavas of epic Mahabharat, worshiped Lord Vishnu to be spared from his sin of sages. It is believed that Pandukeshwar is titled after the name of King Pandu. During the exile period of Pandavas, they also visited here to accomplish the funeral of their father. Yog Dhyan Badri Temple and Lord Vasudev Temple are the two famous temples of Pandukeshwar.
Niti:
Niti, a small & last village situated at the southern of Indo-Tibetian border of Chamoli district. Heavy snowfall is experienced during winters & the village is vacated. The people follow the traditional methods of living in the mountains.
GovindGhat:
GovindGhat is the doorway to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. It is a place for nature lovers, adventure lovers & devotees. It is settled on the bank of river Alaknanda, a vital part of it was Shattered during the 2013 floods, which was reimposed later.
Hemkund Sahib:
Better pronounced as Shri Hemkund Sahib is a holy place as it is a Gurudwara which is a place of worship for Sikhs. It is dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh: the Tenth Guru of Sikh’s. It has a glacial lake which is surrounded by seven mountain peaks. It is unreachable from the month of October to April due to its snowbound paths and glaciers. It is about 3kms from the Valley of Flowers.
Auli:
Auli is a beautiful, one of the most famous & approachable destinations located near Uttarakhand Valley of Flowers to visit in winters. It is the ski resort of India. Auli holds the honor of hosting the first South Asian Winter Games in 2011. It has been titled the best ski resort by the Austrian & French experts who hosted these game events. You can come across snowy mountains & slopes placed at a height of 2505 meters. If you are a snow lover then this destination for you closes to the Valley of flowers.
Gorson Bugyal:
You can head to trek for 3km from Auli to reach Goroson Bugyal at an altitude of 3056mts. An additional 1km trek from Gorson Bugyal will take you to Chattarkund which is known for its sweet water and is in the middle of a thick forest. The best time to trek Gorson Bugyal is during the spring season as it is covered by rich green grass all over the pastureland. During the winters it is covered by snow all over so it becomes difficult for trekking here but still some people love to trek in the snow.

Weather in Valley of Flowers National Park
As the Valley of Flowers is located inside the Himalayan range even the summer months of April to June are moderate to cool where the temperature is reached to a maximum of 19oC. Between late October and late march, the floral beauty of the Valley of Flowers is frozen-out due to heavy and continuous snowfall. From late June to early September heavy rainfall is experienced here. The vegetation is rich here as the soil remains moist due to low cloud and prevailing mist. During the late summer monsoon, there is heavy fog and rain. The best time to sight the Valley of Flowers blooming its Floral Beauty is between July to September and during the month of August, the Floral Beauty of the Uttarakhand Valley of Flowers reaches its peak.

By Air:
The nearest airport from Uttarakhand Valley of Flowers National Park is Jolly Grant airport Dehradun, from there it takes 158 km to reach the Valley. Dehradun airport is connected with major cities of India. Helicopter service is also available for the Valley of Flowers which will also cover Hemkund Sahib if you would like to cover it on your way.
By Train:
If you want to reach Uttarakhand Valley of Flowers by train then Rishikesh is the nearest railway station which is 272 km from the Valley of flowers. From there you need to take the roadway.
By Road:
The nearest well-connected reachable destination by road from the Valley of Flowers is Govind Ghat, from there start off a trek of 13 km to reach the actual location. You can take any of the following routes to reach your final destination:
