History of Haldwani, Uttarakhand
Haldwani has been a part of the ‘ kingdom of Kumaon’ and holds a different history within itself. This part of Kumaon Hills caught the eyes or became famous when King Gyan Chand of Chand Dynasty visited Delhi Sultanate in the 14th century. Afterward, the Mughals tried to take over this region of Kumaon Hills but due to the difficult terrain and steeply mountains, they failed to achieve their goals of taking over this part.
This city was formed in 1834 at that time period it was known as ‘Pahad ka Bazar’. This region of Kumaon was the main producer of trees called Haldu, based on this later the city was named ‘Haldwani’. The first road to be constructed from Nanital to kathgodam is done by Ramage in 1882. And the first train which reached Kathgodham railway station was departed from Lucknow on 24 April,1884.
