Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple: History of Temple
Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a famous Hindu temple of Lord Vishnu located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala State, India. This historical temple, included in the major Vaishnava temples of India, is one of the many tourist places in Thiruvananthapuram. The Padmanabha Swamy Temple is an important place of worship for Vishnu devotees. Improvements have been made to the structure of the temple. For example, in 1733 AD, this temple was rebuilt by Martada Varma, the Maharaja of Travancore.
There is a legend associated with the Padmanabha Swamy Temple. It is believed that the idol of Lord Vishnu was first obtained from this place, after which this temple was built at the same place.
A huge idol of Lord Vishnu is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, to see which thousands of devotees come here from far and wide. In this idol, Lord Vishnu is seated on Sheshnag in a sleeping posture.
It is believed that the name Thiruvananthapuram is named after the name of the Lord’s ‘Anant’, the serpent. The resting state of Lord Vishnu here is called ‘Padmanabha’, and the Lord enthroned in this form is known here as Padmanabha Swamy.

Men must wear a dhoti and women must wear a saree to enter the temple. Only Hindus get entry into this temple. Two important festivals are organized in the temple every year, one in March and April and the other in October and November. Lakhs of devotees come to participate in the annual festivals of the temple and pray to Lord Padmanabhaswamy for happiness and peace.
Mysterious Door of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple:
The Supreme Court has recognized the right of the erstwhile royal family of Travancore to manage the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, one of the richest temples in the country. Along with this, the court has left the decision on whether the basement (Vault B) of the temple should be opened or not to the Administrative and Advisory Committee. The basement of the temple (Vault B) is closed due to fear of any evil.
There are 7 cellars in the temple, out of which 6 have been opened, and valuable ornaments and precious things have been found in them. But the seventh door could not be opened. There were many difficulties in opening the seventh door, after which the Supreme Court banned the opening of Vault B until further orders. Let’s know what secret is hidden in the seventh basement
The kings of Travancore had built the temple
The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, was built by the kings of Travancore in the 6th century. Whose mention is found in the texts of the 9th century? The Travancore royals had surrendered their lives and property to Lord Padmanabhaswamy. In the year 1750, Maharaj Martend Varma called himself Padmanabha Das. Since then, only the royal family has taken care of the temple, and they do not take even a particle from the temple with them. It is said that even today, the people of the royal family clean their feet while leaving the temple so that even a particle of the temple does not come with them.
Many precious diamonds and stones were found
So far property worth Rs 1,32,000 crore has been found in the 6 basements of the Padmanabha Swamy temple. In these, a three and a half feet gold idol of Lord Vishnu was found, in which precious diamonds and stones were studded. An 18-foot-long gold chain was also found there. Along with this, diamonds and precious stones were found in large quantities.
The seventh door is considered cursed
As soon as it reached the seventh door, i.e., Vault B, the work was stopped after seeing the picture of a cobra snake made on the door. People believe that if the seventh door is opened, some inauspicious event may happen. Legend has it that the kings of Travancore hid priceless treasures behind the vaults and thick walls of this temple. Which was not opened by anyone for thousands of years, and thus later this cellar was considered cursed.
Two snakes guard the door
It is said that once someone tried to open the seventh door but died due to the bite of poisonous snakes. This door is made of steel, and two snakes are on it. who guards this door. There is no nut bolt, or lock on this door. This door is said to have been tied using the mantras of Naag Bandham or Naag Pasham.
