History of Chitai Golu Devta Temple

Chitai temple was built by kings of the Chand Dynasty in the 12th century. Golu Devta was also a general of the army of the Chand dynasty’s king Baj Bahadur (1638-1678). He is considered as a brave son, Historically, and a Katyuri king’s general. And also Champawat is considered as the origin of Golu Devta. Mother of the Golu Devta is believed to be the sister of two other local deities Harishchand Devjyun and Sem Devjyun and both these deities are regarded as uncles of Lord Golu Devta.
