 Dhari Devi Mandir Story

In ancient times the idol of Dhari mata was washed out by the flood and stuck between the rocks near Dhari Village. It’s believed that Dhari mata comes in the dream of a villager and ordered him to take the idol of a Dhari mata out from the river and placed the idol where it’s was found and should be kept under the open sky. Thus, the temple is known as the Dhari Devi Mandir.  According to the Priest, the appearance of the goddess changes with time, from a small girl to a woman to an old lady. Dhari mata is also considered as the guardian and the protector of a Char Dham in Uttarakhand. The temple has the upper half of the idol goddess Dhari Devi and the lower half is located in Kalimarth where she is worshipped as the kali avatar.

Due to the construction of an Electricity Dham named Alaknanda Electric Dam built by Alaknanda Hydro Power company, On June 16 2013 the old temple of the goddess was removed and shifted to the concrete platform at the height of about 611 meters from the Alaknanda river. Hours the idol was shifted the region faced the worst natural disasters. The flood was caused due to the multi-cloud bust resulting in floods and landslides washing the entire town, killing hundreds of people. Devotees and locals believed that it was caused due to the idol being shifted from its ‘Mool Sthan’ to make a way for the Hydro project.
