Baraadsar Lake is one of the most sacred lake located on the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal between two valleys named- Rupin and Supin Valleys in Western Garhwal Himalayas. Baraadsar Lake has a spectacular view of great mountains peaks such as Swargarohini, Bandarpoonvh, Kalang towards its East and Kinnaur and Supin Valley towards its West. It is located at an altitude of 4300 meters and is also known as “Wish fulling Lake”. The lake is about 400m long and remains frozen most of the year passing through dense forests and steep ridges.

Baraadsar Lake Trek:

Baraadsar Lake Trek is one of the less explored treks in Uttarakhand. The trek starts from Rupin Valley through various villages and forests and ends over the ridge separating Rupin and Supin Valley providing panoramic views of snow-capped mountains. It is a great way to explore the beauty of Garhwal region providing breath taking and mesmerizing lake view. The trekking distance is 43 kilometres.

Mythology about Baraadsar Lake:

According to the local people of Sankri, the lake is considered as sacred and possess many supernatural powers. It is said that prayers to God at this lake never goes unanswered therefore it is also known as “Wish-fulfilling lake”.

Another mythological fact states that during the war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas in Deora Village, the Kauravas had thrown the head of Ghatotkach, son of Bheem in this river therefore this river is considered as untouchable.

How to reach Baraadsar Lake:

The base camp for this lake is Sankri village of Uttarkashi. Below are few ways to reach Sankri through different modes of transportation-

By Air: The nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun which is approx. 200kms far from the base camp. After landing at Dehradun further journey is done by roadways.

By Train: Dehradun is the closest railways (Nandadevi Express, Dehradun Express etc) to this trek and further distance is covered by roadways.

By Road: Direct Bus can be catched to Sankri from Mussoorie,Dehradun or directly book a taxi to Sankri Village.

Baraadsar Lake Trek route:

The trek route of the famous lake is as follows

Day 1 Pickup from Dehradun to Sakri village to Himri Camp nearby Rupin river (12hrs)

Day 2 Starting from Himri Camp to Sarutal by trek and overnight stay in tents (5-6hrs)

Day 3 Starting trek from Sarutal to Badang and overnight stay in tents (4hrs)

Day 4 Starting from Badang to Daldhar and overnight stay in tents (5-6hrs)

Day 5 Starting from Dhaldhar to Baraadsar Ridge and overnight stay in tents (7kms)

Day 6 Starting from Baraadsar Ridge to Baraadsar Lake, final destination.

The last day of the journey/trek starts with an easy downhill walk and overnight stay in hotel in Sankri Village.
